Check out my Darjeeling travel guide here - http://migrationology.com/2013/05/darjeeling-travel-guide-things-you-need-to-know/ | Have Facebook? https://www.facebook.com/migrationology Darjeeling, India, is located in the very Northern part of the West Bengal state. Coming from Kolkata, it's hard to believe that Darjeeling is actually in the same state, it's such a vastly different place. In order to get to Darjeeling, India, it's easiest to take the train to the nearest station which is located at New Jalpaiguri (known just as NJP by the train code). There's little to do in NJP, but from right outside the train station you can then board to a shared jeep and for 200 Rupees, you can take the jeep straight to Darjeeling. The jeep normally takes about 4 hours to reach the town and they wil...
Travel video about destination Darjeeling Himalayan Toy Train in Siliguri. The finest way to travel from Siliguri to Darjeeling is by way of the Darjeeling Himalaya Toy Train. The surroundings of Siliguri are well worth a visit and just a few kilometres away is Kali Mandir, a Hindu temple dedicated to the goddess, Kali and also Coronation Bridge an old but impressive structure that was designed and built by the British in 1930. The small train begins to move away slowly and travels through Siliguri, the buildings of which were constructed after the railroad. There is little traffic as only one train travels into the mountains each morning with another returning in the evening. British engineering made this railroad possible, an eighty eight kilometre railroad connection to the mountain worl...
Hey guys! I recently went to Darjeeling with my family for our annual winter vacation and I decided to vlog on the trip. This happens to be my second travel vlog. I’ve summed up my 3 day Darjeeling experience in this 20+ minute video. Hope this is helpful to all those visiting Darjeeling and Kalimpong. Also, just adding on here - this is a VLOG where I've just shared my experience. I do not claim to have everything documented accurately, since a lot of the names of places and areas shot have been a result of my tour guide's information. However, I have tried and given info as accurately as possible. I do not mean to hurt sentiments of anyone who's from Darjeeling. It's just a fun travel vlog :) Here are the list of places that I went to (in order of appearance) – 1. Mall Road / Chowrast...

In part four of my video travel guide series to India, I travel to Darjeeling, the famed hill station known for its views and famous tea plantations. The city itself is nestled in the Himalaya mountains between Nepal and Northeast India, and is a popular place for people to stay before heading into the mountains for a trek. In this video I visit Observatory Hill, home to the temple where it is thought Darjeeling got its name. Today there are several shrines there, thousands of prayer flags decorating the trees, and even a temple cave. I then head to Happy Valley Tea Estate, one of the only tea plantations actually located in town, where I explore the grounds and sit down for afternoon tea with a local picker. Despite what I always assumed to be an acute sense of smell, I had difficulty p...

Built between 1879 and 1881, the railway is about 78 kilometres (48 mi) long. Its elevation level varies from about 100 metres (328 ft) at New Jalpaiguri to about 2,200 metres (7,218 ft) at Darjeeling. Four modern diesel locomotives handle most of the scheduled services; however the daily Kurseong-Darjeeling return service and the daily tourist trains from Darjeeling to Ghum (India's highest railway station) are handled by the vintage British-built B Class steam loco...
